Bilingual (French-English) Writing Services

En français ou en anglais, it's your choice!

Are you a business that attracts customers in English and French?

And don’t you find it annoying that you often have to outsource the writing to a different person from the translation?

It means double the work as far as finding the right match goes, and then there’s no guarantee that both texts will match up and get your tone of voice just right.

Why don’t you simplify things, and let a professional bilingual copywriter help you come up with the right words, en français et en anglais.

The history of a bilingual copywriter

In case you haven’t read my full story yet, here’s how I came to be a bilingual copywriter.

I was born and raised close to Ottawa and lived in Quebec up until my thirties. That means I grew up with Passe-Partout and Sesame Street. Whenever I watch a French or English movie, it’s always in its original language, no subtitles on.

I went to school in French up until University where I did half my course in English and half in French, writing assignments included.

And then when it was time to start working, I got my start in internal communications for federal government agencies. In Canada, that means you need to prove that your written, oral and understanding skills of both English and French are as high as can be. And mine are. (I got a score of EEE on the first try for the curious)

Alors, si vousavezbesoind’une rédactrice quiexcelleautant en français qu’enanglais et quipeutnonseulementvousfournir des textesbilinguesmaisquipeutaussivous aider à traduire des documents de tous types, jesuis la personnequ’ilvousfaut.

What’s the process like?

The process for bilingual copy is similar to single language projects with a few twists and turns where I integrate the translation process.

First, we have a chat about the work that you need to be done, and I send you a custom quote. Once the quote is approved, an agreement has been signed and the deposit is received, the work gets started.

Once I’ve made my coffee, I sit down and write or edit your texts in the language that you are most comfortable with. Then, there will be a first round of revision to make sure the tone of voice is right and that the information is correct.

After that I’ve made the amend to the first draft, according to your feedback, I translate the text. I then compare both versions to make sure that they are as similar as possible. In some cases, this can be tricky because the French version tends to be longer. I may end up tweaking both the original and translated version to have a bilingual version that feels like the perfect pair.

This is when you’ll see both the English and French versions and will be able to make your final comments before I go through both texts with a fine comb to make sure no errors have snuck in.

After that, you’ll get a final version of your text can simply copy and paste where it belongs unless I’ve been copy editing the document it will live on.

How much does it cost?

Each copy editing project differs in length, complexity and need. You might only want me to give it a quick glance for typos, or you’ll want the whole she-bang and tackle the structure on top of the wording.

This means I can’t give you a good idea of how much it cost in average, because I have yet to see and average copy editing project! You’ll have to contact me to get your specific quote.

When paired with any of my other services like website copywriting or blog post writing, the editing is included.
